Allstate’s annual report ranks cities based on how common collisions are in 200 of the biggest metro areas across the country.

Rankings are based on property damage claim frequency, reflecting how often drivers cause damage to others. Allstate analyzed those claims over a two-year period from January 2023 through December 2024.

Huntsville came in as the 17th safest metro area for drivers, down five spots from last year’s rankings. The city still has a 10.5% smaller chance of getting into a collision than the national average.

The other three Alabama metro areas on the list are all considered above the national average but two have risen in the rankings since last year’s report.

  • No. 41 Birmingham: +0.5% above national average | Up 14 spots from last year
  • No. 53 Mobile: +2.7% | Up 12 spots
  • No. 61 Montgomery: +5.3% | Same spot

According to Allstate claims data, the average U.S. driver experiences a collision once every 10.86 years.
