Holiday parties are in full swing, and I’m always on the hunt for healthy and “smarter” snacks.

I visited one of my go-to websites, Chews Wisely Alabama, to discover healthier options for all my favorite party foods. Read on for a look at what I found.

1. Swap potato chips for pretzels, whole-grain crackers or pita chips

For guilt-free snacking this holiday season, trade the potato chips for whole-grain crackers, pita chips or pretzels.

A classic chips and dip combo is simple, and the quickest way to become the star at any dinner party.

Try cinnamon apple crisps for a healthy alternative to chips.

Or, pair some whole wheat crackers with meat and cheese for a hearty snack.

2. Love dips? Try hummus, guacamole + honey mustard

Skip the dips that include unnecessary fats and bring hummus, guacamole or honey mustard to the table instead.

These bring lighter options to your party spread and are just as delicious!

Anyone who brings hummus to the get-together is a hero in my book—just saying.

Swap dips like spinach and artichoke, cheese or French onion and try cowboy caviar instead.

3. Make dessert with whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose

For those who like to skip straight to the sweets (I’m guilty), the dessert table is usually full of heavy and rich treats.

Whether you’re making cookies, brownies or a tried and true family cobbler, try switching out the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour—filled with fiber and other nutrients.

Psst, you can also use applesauce instead of vegetable oil for a low-calorie addition.

Skip the rich desserts and go with a lighter option like this chilled mojito fruit salad or watermelon sherbert.
