3 Honda cars made in Alabama make top 10 of Cars.com American-Made Index

Cars.com recently released its annual American-Made Index rankings, highlighting the year’s best cars made across the country.

This year, three Alabama-made cars were selected in the top 10 with 14 more making the top 100. The index including cars from:

  • Genesis in Montgomery
  • Honda in Lincoln
  • Hyundai in Montgomery
  • Mazda in Huntsville
  • Mercedes-Benz in Vance
  • Toyota in Huntsville

Honda’s Lincoln plant leading the industry

Honda did not have the most cars of any Alabama plant on the list but it was responsible for the four highest ranked Alabama-made cars.

The four cars on the list, all ranked in the top 15 nationally, include:

  • #7 Honda Ridgeline
  • #8 Honda Odyssey
  • #9 Honda Passport
  • #12 Honda Pilot

American-Made Index

“While we don’t reveal the weighting and calculation methodology, each factor is essential, as are a number of disqualifiers explained below. Models are ranked on a 100-point scale, with heavier curb weights functioning as a tiebreaker when necessary.”

The AMI is built based on five key factors including:

  • Location(s) of final assembly
  • Percentage of U.S. and Canadian parts
  • Countries of origin for all available engines
  • Countries of origin for all available transmissions
  • U.S. manufacturing workforce
