4 upcoming events in Auburn—polar plunge, wine tasting + more

With the new year just starting, there are a lot of new events to look forward to throughout the state. Keep reading for all the details on four upcoming January events in Auburn—and have your calendar handy.

1. Second Saturday at Pioneer Park

All ages will enjoy this blast from the past. On the second Saturday of every month, a group of history re-enactors gather in period attire to demonstrate their arts and crafting abilities.

Spinners and weavers are in the textile room. the gardeners are in the gardens and the blacksmiths are at the forge. There will be crafts and seasonal activities scheduled, and someone is always cooking up a meal in a fireplace or outdoors.

Additionally, The Whistle Stop Pickers dulcimer group meets at the Museum on site at at 1PM.

This is an excellent event for a history buff or someone of any age interested in learning more about what life was like in the past.

2. Third Thursdays Poetry Series at Pebble Hill

Pebble Hill invites the public to come experience a reading from a poet on the third Thursday of every month. This month, they welcome Jim Peterson.

Peterson is a Lynchburg, Virginia, resident and author of six poetry collections, three chapbooks, numerous plays and a novel. He has won multiple awards for his work and has been published in various publications. This event is a great opportunity to hear the writings of a talented and established author.

3. 12th Annual Auburn Polar Plunge

Auburn’s Annual Polar Plunge is a family-friendly fundraiser with a mission to raise financial support for the brave athletes of the Lee County Special Olympics.

The goal is to get as many people as possible to “sponsor” the plunge with their donations. The community is invited to attend and dress up as their favorite 2023 trend. There will be prizes for those who raise the most money and the costume contest winners.

If you love to swim, love the thrill of the cold or simply want to make a positive impact, then don’t hesitate to dive right in at this event.

4. Well Red Wine Tasting

Well Red is a popular, local coffee shop that also is known for their books and wine.

They hold multiple events throughout the year, including a wine tasting. Patrons of the upcoming wine tasting will have a chance to sample five featured bottles and can have any questions answered by the knowledgeable staff.

If you can’t make the event but would still love to try their wine options, they offer a wide selection of wine and craft beers that can be enjoyed in-store or taken home with you.

Wine enjoyers and curious newcomers will both enjoy this casual and fun event.
