Both Alabama and Auburn fell multiple spots in the latest AP Poll despite a bye week for the Crimson Tide + a strong showing against a top 10 team on the road by the Tigers.

Alabama fell three slots to No. 17 in the latest AP Poll, the third highest ranked one-loss team. Meanwhile, Auburn dropped just one spot outside of the rankings after losing 24-17 to No. 7 Oklahoma.

Keep reading to learn more about both teams status in the latest polls + where each team’s weekend opponent sits in this week’s rankings.

Alabama football

While Alabama fell in the rankings, this week marks the 283rd consecutive poll the Tide has appeared in the top 25. The second-longest active streak currently belongs to Georgia (136) who is No. 5 in this week’s AP Poll + may have an opportunity to end Alabama’s streak this weekend.

Saturday will mark the first meeting between the two teams without both teams ranked in the top 10 since 2015 when Alabama was ranked No. 13 before going into Athens and defeating No. 8 Georgia.

This will be the 12th consecutive matchup with both teams ranked.

And this year’s trip to Sanford Stadium is just the start of the SEC gauntlet. Here’s an updated look at the Alabama’s conference schedule:

  • Sep. 27: at No. 5 Georgia
  • Oct. 4: No. 18 Vanderbilt
  • Oct. 11: at No. 20 Missouri
  • Oct. 18: No. 15 Tennessee
  • Oct. 25: at South Carolina
  • Nov. 8: No. 4 LSU
  • Nov. 15: No. 7 Oklahoma
  • Nov. 29: at Auburn

Alabama has not lost its SEC opener since 2015 when it fell to Ole Miss at home. The Tide went on to win the national championship that season.

Auburn football

The Tigers officially fell four spots after losing to Oklahoma. Auburn is just nine points outside the top 25, officially coming it at the No. 26 spot in the AP Poll.

But the team will certainly have more chances to break back into the rankings, especially this weekend with a trip to College Station to take on No. 10 Texas A&M.

Auburn’s last win over a ranked team came last year against the Aggies but the Tigers have not beaten a top 10 opponent since 2021. And they have not beaten a top 10 team on the road since 2014.

The rest of Auburn’s SEC slate looks like this:

  • Sep. 20: 24-17 loss at No. 7 Oklahoma
  • Sep. 27: at No. 10 Texas A&M
  • Oct. 11: No. 5 Georgia
  • Oct. 18: No. 20 Missouri
  • Oct. 25: at Arkansas
  • Nov. 1: Kentucky
  • Nov. 8: at No. 18 Vanderbilt
  • Nov. 29: No. 17 Alabama

The Tigers dropped their SEC opener for the third straight season. Now, they’re trying to finish with a winning record in conference play for the first time since 2020.
