Alabama Forestry Commission launches Centennial Celebration with new mural

Last week, the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC) unveiled a new mural in downtown Montgomery to kickoff its centennial celebration.

The mural is located at 513 Madison Avenue at the Commission’s state headquarters.

“Today we dedicate this mural to the men and women of the Alabama Forestry Commission – past, present, and future – who for the last 100 years have taken seriously the commitment to protect Alabama’s forests and citizens.”

Alexander City artist Charles Forbus painted the mural, which has been officially added to the  Alabama Mural Trail.

23 million acres of forests in Alabama

Founded in 1924, the Commission helps manage and protect Alabama’s 23 million acres of forests from wildfires, insects and diseases. The organization also runs tree planting, Champion Tree and  urban forestry programs.
