Alabama got its second straight win over a ranked team Saturday, taking down Vanderbilt and avenging the 2024 loss in Nashville.

The Crimson Tide has responded to its season-opening loss to Florida State with four consecutive wins, continuing to move back up in the AP Poll. This week, Alabama moved up two more spots to No. 8, returning to its preseason ranking.

Things don’t get any easier moving forward for the Tide as four of the next five games are against teams currently ranked in the top 15. That starts with a trip to Missouri this weekend to take on the No. 14 Tigers.

Keep reading for a closer look at the AP Poll + who else in the SEC is trending upwards.

AP Top 25

Alabama is now the highest-ranked one-loss team, jumping Texas and Penn State after both teams suffered upsets on the road over the weekend and fell completely out of the Top 25.

The Crimson Tide is still the fourth highest ranked SEC team, behind Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Oklahoma. Here’s the complete top 10:

  1. Ohio State
  2. Miami
  3. Oregon
  4. Ole Miss
  5. Texas A&M
  6. Oklahoma
  7. Indiana
  8. Alabama
  9. Texas Tech
  10. Georgia

Alabama is currently the only team in the country with a win over a team currently ranked in the Top 10.

The Tide was ranked in the top 10 on all 66 ballots + they were ranked as high as No. 4 by three separate voters.

This is the 284th consecutive poll Alabama has appeared in, extending the second longest streak in college football history.

SEC football

There are now “just” nine SEC teams in the AP Top 25 with Texas dropping out after its loss to Florida. However, there were still three other conference teams receiving votes this week including Auburn, Mississippi State and the Longhorns.

The Tigers will have an opportunity to jump back into the rankings with No. 10 Georgia coming to town this week. Auburn’s only losses are to No. 5 Texas A&M and No. 6 Oklahoma, both defeats coming on the road.

Auburn is looking for its first top-10 win since October 2021. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6:30PM Saturday on ABC.

This game continues a stretch of four consecutive games against ranked opponents including:

  • Sep. 20: at No. 6 Oklahoma – 24-17 L
  • Sep. 27: at No. 5 Texas A&M – 16-10 L
  • Oct. 11: No. 10 Georgia (6:30PM)
  • Oct. 18: No. 14 Missouri

Alabama’s gauntlet isn’t much different, already two games into a brutal stretch of games featuring 6 currently ranked opponents in 7 games.

  • Sep. 27: at No. 10 Georgia – 24-21 W
  • Oct. 4: No. 20 Vanderbilt – 30-14 W
  • Oct. 11: at No. 14 Missouri (11AM)
  • Oct. 18: No. 12 Tennessee
  • Oct. 25: at South Carolina
  • Nov. 8: No. 11 LSU
  • Nov. 15: No. 6 Oklahoma
