It was a historic weekend in Tuscaloosa as the Alabama baseball team swept No. 18 Florida for the first time since 2002.
But it was Friday’s events that stole the headline well before the sweep was completed.
Pitcher Tyler Fay no hit the Gators on Friday night, throwing the program’s first individual 9-inning no-hitter since 1942. It’s the team’s first overall no hitter since 2014 when three pitchers combined to no hit Mississippi Valley State.
Fay’s final line:
- 9 innings pitched
- 0 hits
- 0 runs
- 2 walks
- 13 strikeouts
Alabama went on to win the game, 6-0. Fay was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week.
“Tyler Fay, obviously the story tonight. I mean, it’s why you come back. He had a chance to go sign and move into pro ball, but you come back for nights like tonight because you don’t get these memories. Like, throw everything else out the window, the money he’s going to make this year, all that, throw all that out. These memories are what makes college baseball so special.”
