2024 Time Capsule
The university wanted to bury a new time capsule to help future students see what changes happened to their campus over five decades.
Some of the items put in this time capsule included:
- Videos + voice recordings from students and staff
- Campus photos
- ASU sports paraphernalia
- Documents highlighting current achievements

“Each one of us here today is part of this proud history and by placing these items today in this Time Capsule, to be opened in the year 2074, we are allowing future members of the Hornet Nation family to see what we are today. This is a surreal moment.”
~ Dr. Quinton T. Ross Jr., ASU President
1974 Time Capsule
The new time capsule comes six months after the university opened a previous capsule that was buried in 1974, sealed by then president Dr. Levi Watkins.
When it was opened, everything was still in good condition. The capsule included things like:
- Special ASU coins and medallions
- Photos of faculty + students
- ASU yearbooks
- Aerial photo of campus
- 32nd Magic City Classic brochure
Those items are now on display at the university’s Levi Watkins Learning Center. The time capsule will be on display through the fall semester.
