Auburn gymnastics kicked off an exciting season featuring Olympic gold medalist and Sports Illustrated Athlete of the Year, Suni Lee. Don’t flip out, the first home meet is this Friday, January 21 at 7PM in the Auburn Arena.
Road to the SEC Championship
Trust me, coming from an Auburn University student, the hype around gymnastics is real. The team took home their first win at the opening meet in Chapel Hill, North Carolina back in December, and finally began the SEC season on Friday, January 14. The student body as well as the Auburn community have already created an energetic atmosphere for the team, and I can promise you it’s worth it to see in person. Grab your tickets here.
The team ranked No. seven out of 69 national teams following the opening weekend. As they travel back to The Plains, fans are eager to begin supporting the gymnasts from their home arena.
From the Olympics to Auburn’s campus
Suni Lee first committed to Auburn in May 2017 and then went on to compete in the Tokyo Olympic Games in July 2021. She went from winning a gold medal to moving into college in less than three weeks––talk about a huge life change. Since her return to Auburn, she has made her debut at football games, basketball games and on-campus events.
