Reading time: 2 minutes
Independence, Auburn University’s bald eagle, plans to take flight before two Philadelphia Eagles games at Lincoln Financial Field in October.
Auburn will be in Philadelphia twice
On Sunday, October 1st, Independence—nicknamed “Indy”—will fly before the NFC Champions critical matchup against divisional rival Washington Commanders.
The Auburn symbol’s second visit of the month to the city of Brotherly Love will take place on October 22nd before a nationally televised Sunday Night matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
“We agreed to a few flights for this season to gauge the process and the fit between the two organizations. We are truly enjoying working with the Eagles staff, and I believe they are pleased with our performance. We hope this is the beginning of a long-term agreement to provide their fans with a unique and educational experience.”
Wade Stevens, director of the Auburn University Raptor Center
Indy also flew before Philadelphia’s second home game in September when they took on the Minnesota Vikings. Video of the flight went viral on social media.
An Auburn tradition like no other
One of college football’s greatest traditions, for years Auburn has welcomed fans with these special flights at home games by Aurea or War Eagle VIII, a golden eagle and official symbol of the school and Indy, America’s national symbol.
Both live at Auburn University Raptor Center in the university’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
