Brittany Howard joins ‘Sinners’ performance at The Oscars [VIDEO]

Alabama native and Alabama Shakes lead singer Brittany Howard got the spotlight Sunday night during the 98th Academy Awards.

She joined a performance of “I Lied To You” by Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq from the movie “Sinners.” Howard was on a long list of guest appearances that also included:

  • Misty Copeland
  • Eric Gales
  • Buddy Guy
  • Christone “Kingfish” Ingram
  • Jayme Lawson
  • Li Jun Li
  • Bobby Rush
  • Alice Smith
  • Shaboozey

Howard played guitar and provided vocals during the second half of the song. You can watch the full performance below.

‘I Lied To You’

The song was written for a pivotal scene in the movie which shows a celebration of Black influence on music history.

“I Lied To You” blends several eras and genres of music into one song. It was nominated for Best Original Song.

The movie’s soundtrack won the Oscar for Best Music (Original Score). Howard was involved in the creation of the soundtrack including writing + performing the song “Pale, Pale Moon.”

The Athens native is back with her band, Alabama Shakes, getting ready for another tour which includes a stop in Tuscaloosa.
