City of Jasper energy efficiency project expects to reduce utility costs by 26%

An energy efficiency project launched by the City of Jasper, Alabama in 2015 is expected to reduce utility and operational costs by 26%, and saving the community $3.6 million over the next two decades.

Partnership between Jasper and Schneider Electric

That is what Jasper residents can expect according to a report released earlier this month about the city-wide energy efficiency project between the city and Schneider Electric. 

Over the past 8 years, renovations and upgrades were made to 16 sites within the city, including 13 buildings and 3 parks.

The result from the Jasper city-wide energy efficiency project

The city announced on their social media account the progress the project has made. 

Below are the numbers and a graphic detailing the impact of the program.

The  city has saved 3,046,750 kWh which is a 2,155 ton reduction in CO2 emissions. 

These energy savings are the equivalent of:

  • Planting 2,536 acres of tree
  • Removing 457 cars from the road for a year
  • Providing energy to 258 homes for a year

In addition to the positive tangible  environmental impacts, the city announced it expects to reduce utility and operational costs by 26% over the next two decades thanks to energy efficiency measures.
