City officials of Enterprise, Alabama broke ground on the much anticipated, multi-million dollar Recreation and Aquatics Center on January 11, 2023.
This project is the first of its kind in Enterprise and will be the largest municipal building in the city. The state-of-the-art facility will include a variety of sports and activity spaces for the community, such as indoor gymnasiums, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and several other amenities.
A Big Day for the City of Enterprise
“As you stand here and look, today is a milestone for breaking ground on the new rec center,” City Engineer and Director of Public Works Barry Mott said. “This building is going to be tremendous and is going to be a great asset to the city.”
The 110,000 sq ft facility will include:
- 10 volleyball courts
- 10 pickleball courts
- Five indoor basketball courts
- Cardio and exercise rooms
- Locker rooms
- Administrative offices and meeting spaces
- 25-lane Indoor and outdoor swimming pools
Enterprise Skate Park Expansion
In addition to building the new recreation and aquatics facility, the city has recently expanded the Enterprise Skate Park. In January, the city installed a new halfpipe measuring four-feet high, 16-feet wide and 30-feet long. The skate park is located next to the new recreation facility directly behind Moose Loop Gym, right off of East Lee Street.
Finish in Late 2024
The new rec recreation and aquatics facility is replacing the M.N “Jug” Recreation center that served the city for over 60 years. The project is projected to be completed by late 2024.
“After 20 years of waiting and dreaming that we could build a nice recreation center for the people of this community, now we are here,” Enterprise Director of Community Services and Recreation Billy Powell said.
