Ivy Green, was built by Helen’s grandparents in 1820 and was eventually passed down to Helen’s father Arthur. The home was originally situated on 640 acres of land, today it sits on 10 acres. During the civil war, Arthur Keller used the home as a hospital for wounded soldiers.

Just 60 years after the home was built, Helen Keller was born in the cottage located on the property. Just 19 months later, Helen would contract the illness that left her blind and deaf. The famous water pump, where Helen learned her first word, is still on display on the property.
