Several fundraisers have been set up to help support the Apalachee High School community which was devastated by a mass shooting that left four people dead and nine people injured on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Statement from the Red Cross

We asked the American Red Cross Alabama Chapter if there were ways people can assist the Barrow County community outside Atlanta.

They gave us a statement from the local Georgia chapter.

“The thoughts and deepest sympathies of the entire American Red Cross family are with the people of Barrow County, and those affected by the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School. The Red Cross has provided additional blood products to support local hospitals in response to this tragedy.

The Red Cross is also in contact with local officials and community partners to determine how we can best support the community now and in the days ahead.

Volunteer blood donors are needed each and every day to help save lives. This tragedy illustrates that it is the blood already on the shelves that helps during an emergency. The Red Cross is grateful to the tens of thousands of donors who have come out to give in recent weeks to rebuild the blood supply. We stand ready to deliver additional blood products as needed.”
