Winter is finally here in Tuscaloosa. If you’re like me, it’s time to restock on warm pants and jackets. If you’re like me in more ways than one, you prefer affordable shopping to overpriced and unsustainable buy-as-new stores. As I updated my winter wardrobe, I decided to make a guide to the best thrifting in Tuscaloosa. Here are the best affordable shopping spots around town.

1. America’s Thrift Store

America’s Thrift Store is a classic in any Alabama town. The America’s Thrift in Tuscaloosa, however, has some of the best selection around. I often spend hours combing through the shop’s endless items, and always snag some unique finds along the way. The spot has plenty of selection for women, men and children, so shop for the whole family while you’re there! Even better, America’s Thrift donates a portion of its proceeds to the Make A Wish foundation.

2. Twice As Nice

Twice as Nice is an upscale thrift store in the heart of downtown Tuscaloosa. The affordable shopping spot is filled with hand-selected casual and formal wear. In addition, it’s decorated with beautiful art work available for purchase. It’s the perfect place for a quick stop on your downtown walk or a great way to spend the evening.

3. Temporary Emergency Services

Temporary Emergency Services is filled to the brim with unique finds. The one-of-a-kind store is a favorite amongst Tuscaloosa locals, as it’s the perfect place to stock up on furniture, kitchenware and clothing at the same time. Temporary Emergency Services is a Tuscaloosa tradition, too: it was founded in 1945 by a group of Tuscaloosa churches, and it’s been helping the community ever since. All of the store’s profits go directly towards supporting Tuscaloosa families in crisis.

4. The Yard Sale

The Yard Sale is Tuscaloosa’s everyday flea market. The affordable shopping spot is filled with booths from various vendors, each of which has a unique style and selection. You can find a neon Miller Lite sign in one corner and a designer purse in the other. That’s the magic of The Yard Sale.
