GUIDE: Must-visit murals in Auburn/Opelika
The Auburn/Opelika area has a rich arts culture that often goes unnoticed, so we’re here to feature one of our favorite ways the community expresses that––murals. Here are seven picture-perfect pieces you’ve got to check out now.
1. Weagle wall
Right in the heart of Downtown Auburn, the Weagle wall is probably the most photographed spot on The Plains. It’s hard not to pass the wall and see recent graduates, incoming students or enthusiastic community members striking a pose.
- Location: 115 S College St, Auburn, AL 36830
2. Greetings from Opelika
Opelika’s Public Library incorporates all the gems of Opelika in postcard form. The historic city is beautifully depicted through this stunning mural.
- Location: 1100 Glenn St, Opelika, AL 36801
3. Auburn Spirit
Local artist R.C. Hagans created this eccentric piece representing all that is Auburn. Eagles, tigers and oak trees, what more could you ask for? You can spot this work of art on your way to Jordan-Hare Stadium.
- Location: 123 N Donahue Dr, Auburn, AL 36832
4. Opelika’s Butterfly
This fun butterfly mural is one of Opelika’s most recent public art displays. It’s safe to say the piece makes for the perfect photo opportunity. Originally created for Down Syndrome Awareness Month, the mural now settles on historic Railroad Avenue for the whole community to enjoy.
- Location: 714 N Railroad Ave, Opelika, AL 36801
5. The Wave
This mural has been making waves in Auburn for as long as we can remember. If you look closely, the ocean is filled with years of colorful hand prints making their mark on the community.
- Location: 147 N College St, Auburn, AL 36830
6. The Yellow Umbrella
Right next to the butterfly we have the legendary yellow umbrella. The forecast says this is one of the most Instagrammable spots in Auburn/Opelika!
- Location: 714 N Railroad Ave, Opelika, AL 36801
7. Bless You
Nothing says authentic Southern town like a huge “Bless You” mural. Located on the side of esteemed event venue, The Southerly Warehouse, this mural serves as a warm welcome upon entering Opelika.
- Location: 1001 Ave B, Opelika, AL 36801
8. Honorable Mentions
We couldn’t forget the smaller scale art displayed around the cities. You’ll have to look a little harder to find these. First, we stumbled upon Little Italy’s pizza mural, creating a fun atmosphere on their back patio. Next, this little plant that caught our eye is displayed on the corner of a door on Railroad Avenue.
