The city of Gulf Shores is moving forward with the construction of a $24.3 million pedestrian bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway.

The project, which has struggled with delays in the bidding process, is now on pace to be completed by Thanksgiving 2026, according to a report from OBA . The bridge will span the waterway at East Second Street and Canal Road. Parking spaces will also be part of the construction on both ends of the bride, which will take the burden off local businesses near the bridge.

While ramps were cut from the plans in order to cut costs, the new plans include larger elevators large enough to accomodate both pedestrians and multiple bicycles.
