Baseball great Hank Aaron’s childhood home has been successfully moved from Hank Aaron Stadium to Toulminville, the neighborhood he grew up in as a child.

According to WKRG, the historic house was moved 10 miles to the campus of the Mobile Police Department’s third precinct off of Saint Stephen’s Road in Toulminville. Joel Reed House Movers and the J. Payne Organization were in charge of relocating the historic home.

The house was moved to Hank Aaron Stadium at McGowin Park in 2008. Since 2010, it has operated as a museum honoring Mobile baseball history and the life of Hank Aaron.

In his daily letter to Mobile residents, Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson outlined what’s next for the home.

“Our goal has always been to use this house entrusted to the City of Mobile in a way that can preserve and highlight Hank Aaron’s incredible legacy for future generations of Mobilians. Over the next two weeks, our teams will place the house on its foundation. From there, we’ll evaluate what needs to be done to repair and restore the home so that it can be reopened to the public and visiting fans once again.”

Presently, the foundation for the home is being built. In the meantime, the memorabilia and exhibits have been stored at the History Museum of Mobile and the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
