Reading time: 2 minutes

Statues of Helen Keller and Rosa Parks now stand proudly on the grounds of the Alabama Capitol in Montgomery.
Unveiled on Friday, October 24, the two statues are the first on the Capitol campus that honor women.
Keller and Parks changed the world

Both women are known worldwide for standing up for justice.
Keller, who was blind and deaf, was a writer, global ambassador and advocate for the rights of women and people with disabilities.
Parks helped launch the Montgomery Bus Boycott when she refused to give up her seat at the front of a Montgomery bus to a white person. Her brave stance brought national attention to the Civil Rights movement.
Governor Kay Ivey participated in the ceremony.
Below are photos from her office of the event.

Where to find the statues
The new statues are located on two prominent places on the Capitol ground.
The Helen Keller 15,000 pound statue is on the South Lawn near the Avenue of Flags.
Rosa Parks’ 9’8 foot statue is on the right side of the front entrance across from the Jefferson Davis statue.
