Here’s how Winter Storm 2025 compares to recent snow events

This past weekend saw snow fall on the central and northern parts of Alabama and accumulate as much as seven inches in some places. And for those of you who have lived in Alabama long enough, that’s a pretty significant amount for this state.
So, how does this past weekend’s snow compare to snow events of the recent past? Glad you asked:
Snow totals this past weekend
Here are some snowfall totals in some of Alabama’s cities from the past weekend, according to Alabama WX Weather Blog:
- Huntsville: 7″
- Killen: 6.5″
- Florence: 5.5″
- Ider: 5.5″
- Haleyville: 5″
- Triana: 4.5″
- Hartselle: 4.2″
- Pell City: 3″
- Cullman: 3″
- Birmingham: 2.8″
- Gadsden: 2.5″
- Alexandria: 2″
- Ashland: 1.8″
- Tuscaloosa: 1.2″
A look at recent snow events in Alabama
If you lived in Alabama in 1993, you probably still remember Winter Storm 1993, a freak snowstorm in March that basically crippled the upper half of the state and saw record amounts of snowfall over the course of 24 hours.
Obviously, most Alabama cities recorded their top snowfall records that day, but some have had even more since then. Many people in Birmingham remember 2014’s “Snowmageddon,” and the Ice Storm of 1996 that crippled the City for a few days.
