All about the new Montgomery murals 🌟
French artist Hopare has officially created two outdoor murals in Montgomery at One Court Square and Lower Dexter Park.
MAPmgm, a grassroots organization that brings together arts and humanities in Montgomery to revitalize communities, invited Hopare, a renowned Paris-based artist best known for his street art, to Montgomery for their Arts in Motion festival. Arts in Motion took place in late March 2022, and Hopare created his new Montgomery murals throughout the two weeks based on his experiences in Montgomery.
“Hopare’s immense talent, curiosity and openness to receive people’s stories is what made him a natural choice for Map MGM. We are so excited to welcome him so that he can experience the unique warmth, passion and talent of Montgomery’s people first-hand.”

“The central point of a hopeful future” ☀️
Both of the murals focus on Montgomery as the central point of a hopeful future, especially through its children. The mural “citizen” features Montgomery’s children carrying “the promise of a better future.”
The other mural “Valda” features Dr. Valda Harris Montgomery, a local activist whose family housed John Lewis after he and other Freedom Riders had been beaten in 1961.
Because the murals are in public spaces, the MAPmgm team is hopeful that they’ll encourage economic development and inspire everyone who sees them.
