Friday, April 25th, 2025 is Arbor Day, a holiday where individuals or groups are encouraged to plant trees. Arbor Day creates environmental awareness and helps to support biodiversity and reduce the carbon footprint.

What makes Arbor Day so special in Alabama is how early we celebrate it. Alabamians begin planting trees in February because of the ideal climate, rather than in April, where more harsh conditions may occur.

On the very first Arbor Day in Nebraska, an estimated 1 million trees were planted.

Auburn

The Auburn Tree Commission will host its annual Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday and distribute 500 persimmon trees to plant, free of charge.

Montevallo

The Montevallo Arbor and Beautification Board will hold its annual “Arbor Day 2025” celebration, featuring seedlings of Red Maple, River Birch, Redbud, Silky Dogwood, Persimmon, Nuttall oak, Baldcy Press, and American Elm.

Bay Minnette

Head to Bay Minnette this weekend for its annual tree giveaway of three-gallon pots.

Huntsville

The Huntsville Botanical Gardens is hosting an Arbor Day 5k Race and 3k Sapling Fun Run to highlight the importance of trees and their impact on the community.

Hoover

Head to the Hoover Area Chamber for the official Arbor Day Proclamation by Mayor Frank Brocatto and a free storytime and crafts session for kids.
