Iron Bowl, Turkey Day Classic + DII playoff game highlight busy Week 14 for in-state teams

Don’t get me wrong, I am just as excited for the Iron Bowl as everybody else. But the football week for our in-state teams does not begin or end in Tuscaloosa.

100th Turkey Day Classic
The Turkey Day Classic was first played in 1924 and it has taken just one year off (2020) since that first game.
Historically, the game featured Alabama State against Tuskegee until 2012 when Alabama State’s opponents began to rotate. However, Tuskegee will be back in town this week, hoping for its first Turkey Day Classic win since 2012.

The Turkey Day Classic parade begins at 8AM in downtown Montgomery. Thousands of spectators are expected to line up along the Dexter Avenue route to cheer as a dazzling array of incredible marchers, floats and marching bands pass by.
Miles in DII playoffs
For the first time ever, Miles College has won a Division II playoff game.
Last week’s 14-13 win over Carson-Newman set up this week’s trip to top-ranked Valdosta State who had a bye into the round of 16. A spot in the quarterfinals is now on the line.

Week 14 schedule
This week will be the season finale for Troy and UAB. South Alabama and Auburn are both hoping to do enough to secure a bowl while Jacksonville State can secure hosting duties for the Conference USA Championship Game by defeating Western Kentucky.
