Kronospan expansion in Oxford among new high-dollar building permits

This past week, 20 new building permits were issued statewide for construction projects exceeding $1 million. Most of these are for projects in the Birmingham metro (15 of them), but the priciest of this past week’s permits is for a project in Oxford.

Kronospan was issued a $13 million permit, part of a $350 million expansion project that was announced in 2023. Here’s more:

$13 million permit issued for Kronospan expansion

Kronospan, one of the world’s leading producer of wood panel products, has operated a facility in Oxford since 2006. In 2023, the company announced a $350 million expansion project, which began last year.

The project on the company’s 460-acre site in Oxford will have a footprint composed of 44 acres of new development, including substantial areas designated for product storage, rail spur and loading docks.

Kronospan Oxford is a multi-product site with MDF, particleboard, laminate flooring, TFL, paper impregnation, resin and power generation capabilities. Kronospan also operates a MDF/HDF and laminate flooring facility in Clarion, Pennsylvania.
