About NPR Tiny Desk
NPR Tiny Desk started in 2008, after producer Bob Boilen couldn’t hear Laura Gibson’s performance at the South by Southwest Music Festival and joked that artists should just perform at his desk. Gibson was singing her folk songs at his desk by April and the Tiny Desk was born.
Since then, it’s drawn some of the biggest names in music—Hozier, Sean Paul, Mitski and even T-Pain. The intimate “tiny” setup and stripped-down versions of Top 40 hits draw crowds (in-person and online) to hear their favorite artists in a more intimate setting.
