Montgomery United FC joining USL League 2 in 2025

The growth of soccer in Alabama has been clear in recent years, much of it coming through the United Soccer League (USL) system.
While Birmingham Legion FC has led the way in the Championship division, lower-level clubs have been an extension of that growth including one in Dothan and now, one in the capital city.

Montgomery United FC
Last week, the United Soccer League officially announced a new team that will be making its debut in League Two during the 2025 season.
Montgomery United FC is a newly established pre-professional soccer component of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery. The program was formed to create an elite pathway for players aspiring to reach the professional level and to unite the community through the beautiful game.
The club hopes to quickly become an integral part of the Montgomery community and is dedicated to providing high-level soccer to the area.
“We are thrilled to be bringing the USL League Two to Montgomery and to Central Alabama. This will be a great opportunity for our community to watch high-level soccer and to help further grow the game in the River Region. Having a senior-level team will also provide our area youth players with a pathway to the next level, and allow local college players to enhance their skills during the summer. We are truly looking forward to the opportunity to compete in USL League Two.”

Montgomery’s 2025 schedule is not yet out but it is expected the club will join the South Central Division alongside Dothan United and Birmingham Legion 2.
The team will play its home matches at the Emory Folmar YMCA Championship Stadium located in Montgomery, Alabama, as a member of the South Central Division.

hummel partnership
On Monday, the club announced a multi-year partnership with Danish global sportswear brand hummel Pro North America as its official on and off the field kit partner.
The apparel company will provide MUFC with fully customized match kits, training equipment, and official fan merchandise. Fans can look forward to exclusive hummel designs that celebrate MUFC’s identity and reflect the inclusivity and unity of our community.

Birmingham Legion FC is also in partnership with hummel with the company creating several new jerseys for the club during the 2024 season.
