Amid all the buzz about Nick Saban’s retirement, one group who’s normally on the football field’s sidelines took center stage. At the UCA College Nationals, the University of Alabama all-girl and co-ed cheer squads both came out with impressive rankings. Keep reading for all the details.

2nd place in two divisions

The UCA College Nationals is a huge event for colleges across the U.S. as they compete for top spots in cheer, dance, spirit and even mascot categories. This year’s three-day event took place January 12-14 at Orlando’s Disney World Park.

The Crimson Tide cheer squads came out strong, taking two second-place spots in both the co-ed and all-girl categories.

Here’s how Division IA (co-ed) stacked up:

  1. University of Central Florida (UCF)
  2. University of Alabama
  3. University of Kentucky
  4. University of South Florida (USF)
  5. Louisiana State University (LSU)

And here’s how the results from the All Girl Division IA came out:

  1. University of South Florida (USF)
  2. University of Alabama
  3. University of Oklahoma + Indiana University (tied for 3rd)
  4. San Diego State University

On top of that, Alabama’s Dance Team placed eighth in the Division IA – Jazz category.

“We love that our teams have the opportunity to compete for championships.

While both our cheer teams fell short of their goals, we are so proud of their second-place finishes! I’m so appreciative of the support from our athletic department, alumni, friends and family. Our athletes represent the University of Alabama in such a positive way and strive for excellence on and off the competition floor.”

But the Crimson Tide wasn’t the only university from Alabama to represent their school’s spirit at the competition. Auburn’s beloved mascot, Aubie the Tiger, took home the title of Division IA Mascot champion in the UCA National Mascot Championship.

In addition, Coastal Alabama Community College placed highly in the Open Small Coed finals (4th place!) and the Small Coed Game Day – Cheer finals (8th place).

Congrats to all three schools on their team spirit!
