New cancer center in North Alabama one of 15 new high-dollar building permits

We have fifteen new building permits to look at this week for construction projects that exceed $1 million. Five of these are in the Birmingham metro, while two are in the Auburn-Opelika area and the rest are for North Alabama projects.

The largest of these projects is a $37 million cancer center in Decatur. Here’s more:

A  newcancer center is being built on a 5.3-acre site on Sixth Avenue Southeast. Clearview Cancer Institute broke ground a few weeks ago on a 57,500-square-foot, two-story cancer center that will replace CCI’s current Decatur facility on 14th Avenue.

Officials with CCI said in February the organization had “outgrown” its current facility, and the need for a larger facility with more care options was overdue.

Scheduled to open in 2026, the new center will offer advanced treatment options closer to home, aiming to make care more convenient and comprehensive for local residents. Capabilities include:

  • Space for lab work
  • A large radiation area
  • Large imaging area for MRIs
  • Extra space for patient care.

Currently, CCI operates 13 cancer treatment locations throughout North Alabama.
