NEW: Cullman begins construction on Omniplex Sports and Civic Center

On November 9, Cullman broke ground on the new Omniplex Sports and Civic Center, a huge new development part of the growing Sports and Events District. Here’s what you need to know.

About the new Omniplex Sports and Civic Center

The new Omniplex Sports and Civic Center will be a huge, multifunctional facility on a 140-acre property in the growing Cullman Sports and Events district. Here’s what it will include when complete:

  • 115,000 square-foot facility
  • 10 tournament basketball courts
  • 19 volleyball courts
  • 5 soccer fields
  • 6 indoor pickle ball courts
  • Indoor aquatic center
  • Space for recreational events
  • Catering kitchen
  • Breakout meeting rooms
  • Gymnasium with capacity for 6,500 people (large enough for concerts, expos, conventions, sporting events + more)

The facility is expected to be complete in late January 2025.

This project is part of a growing portfolio that Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism has contributed to the community, including:

  • 10 parks
  • 6 multifunctional recreational facilities
  • 2 golf courses
  • Disc golf course
  • RV Resort
  • Farmer’s market
  • WildWater Water Park

City of Cullman, Cullman Parks, Recreation, & Sports Tourism Department, CCR Architecture, and Jim Cooper Construction Company came together on November 9 to celebrate the groundbreaking of the latest development in Cullman’s recreation scene.
