Geri Moulton Children’s Park on USA Health’s campus in Midtown Mobile was rededicated today after months of renovations.

First opened in 2001, the wooded park—with its oaks and well designed walking paths that meander throughout—is a treasured space in Mobile for families seeking respite.

Geri Moulton Children’s Park’s 50 life-sized statues

The park spans from Springhill Avenue to Center Street at the entrance of USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital. It is filled with more than 50 life-size bronze sculptures (and a few larger-than-life displays) depicting children, families and animals that provide a place for enjoyment for employees, patients and the community.

The renovations and enhancements to the park included:

  • Enlarged pond with multiple sculptures moved to surround it
  • Additional water elements, such as water from the elephant and alligator flowing into the pond
  • Cracked sidewalks were replaced throughout

The “heart” of the USA Health Midtown campus

“One of the first things that captured my attention when I joined USA Health was this beautiful park. As the health system has grown, the Mitchell Cancer Institute and Strada Patient Care Center now stand on either side, making Geri Moulton Children’s Park truly the heart of our midtown campus.”

Owen Bailey, MSHA, F.A.C.H.E., CEO of USA Health

Geri Moulton, wife of the late Gordon Moulton—the University of South Alabama’s second president—was on hand to share stories about the park.

“This Mobile treasure would not be here today if not for the tireless efforts of Geri Moulton and a close group of her friends and artists and their dream to bring a sculpture park to our city and academic health system. Many more generations to come will enjoy the park because of their dedication to enhancing the quality of life in our community.”

John V. Marymont, M.D., MBA, vice president for medical affairs and dean of the College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama

A special place, Geri Moulton Children’s Park is more than a park to all who visit.
