North Alabama set to host first on-campus football game in school’s history

The University of North Alabama was first established all the way back in 1830 and the school’s football program had its first season in 1912.
But during all those years, the Lions never played a game on the university’s campus. That will all change this weekend.
UNA is hosting Alcorn State at the new Bank Independent Stadium on Saturday, Sep. 19 with kickoff scheduled for 6PM.

UNA’s new Bank Independent Stadium
The new stadium had an estimated cost around $65 million with construction ending earlier this year. It includes:
- Turf field
- Track
- 10,000 fan capacity
- Suites + stadium club
Football, baseball, and soccer are expected to use the multi-purpose stadium, along with other events like concerts and conventions.
2026 home schedule for North Alabama football
Previously, the UNA football team has played its home games at the historic Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence. The Lions played there for 77 seasons, winning three Division II national championships.
North Alabama has started this season 1-2, playing on the road in each of the first three weeks of the season. The Lions did get a win over in-state foe Samford in the season opener played in Huntsville.
