More than ice cream

What’s better than ice cream? Wine and ice cream. (Bama Buzz/ Morgan Byerley)

Moonshot officially opened its doors on June 9th after a grand opening event that showcased various ice cream flavors and unique wines.

From the sleek and minimal interior to the floor-to-ceiling wine cave, owners Paul and Audrey Vermilyea founded Moonshot as a creative space that thrives on innovation.

“Moonshot is a small-batch ice cream and bottle shop. We have 20 rotating artisan flavors, including some dairy-free options. Our wine selection focuses on low-intervention wines that you won’t find on grocery store shelves. We want to be the playful, imaginative part of people’s day and offer a space that is uncommonly good and full of camaraderie.”

The Vermilyeas aren’t newcomers to the Tuscaloosa area and already have one thriving business. They opened Monarch in 2017 which has established itself as a trendy coffee spot for locals and university students alike.

Moonshot is the Vermilyeas’ next endeavor and they’re excited to create yet another space in Tuscaloosa for the community to gather together.

“Moonshot is a natural next step for us, built on the same philosophy of service that feels more like a friend’s living room than a commercial transaction. We love Tuscaloosa and want to do anything in our power to create places that enhance the lives of all in our community.”
