Break out your sparklers and patriotic gear, Tuscaloosa! It’s Fourth of July weekend, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate. Here are some of the events we’re excited for.

Fireworks on the River

  • When: Sunday, July 4th. Amphitheater gates open at 6 PM and fireworks begin at 9 PM.
  • Where: The Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, 2710 Jack Warner Pkwy.
  • Cost: A free, unticketed event.

I can’t wait for the Celebration on the River! It will be a free, fun and family-friendly way to celebrate Independence Day. The Black Warrior River will light up under a beautiful fireworks display at 9 PM. Before that, Tuscaloosa Parks and Recreation is hosting a Kids Zone inside the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater from 6 to 7:45 PM. In addition, the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra is playing in the amphitheater from 7:45 to 8:45 PM.

July 4th at the Lookout

  • When: Sunday, July 4. Doors open at 5 PM.
  • Where: The Lookout Rooftop Bar at Hotel Indigo, 111 Greensboro Ave
  • Cost: $10 admission price. Food and drinks sold separately.

The Lookout Rooftop Bar is one of my favorite spots in town, and it’ll be a prime firework viewing spot. With an aerial view of the Black Warrior River, I’m sure fireworks set off from the amphitheater will light up the night. There’s a special menu just for the Fourth with a featured cocktail, frozen drinks and the Lookout’s amazing food. Check it out for a tasty and festive way to spend the Fourth.

T-Town Snow Fundraiser

  • When: Monday, July 5,12 PM-2 PM.
  • Where: Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter, 3140 35th St.
  • Cost: A free, unticketed event.

If you’re feeling hot and tired the day after the Fourth, you can cool down with some shaved ice while supporting a good cause. T-Town Snow is setting up their truck outside the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter on July 5th. 25% of all shaved ice sales go directly to the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter, which received almost 300 stray animals in June alone. I’m sure there will be plenty of pups and smiles at the fundraiser. I’ll see you there!

  • When: Saturday, July 3, 8 PM.
  • Where: Druid City Brewing Company, 607 14th St.
  • Cost: A free, unticketed event.

Great live music keeps coming to Tuscaloosa, and this weekend is no exception. DC Moon, who’s played rock for over thirty years, is performing at Druid City Brewing Company the day before the Fourth. It’ll be a loud, rowdy and entertaining show. There’s no better way to celebrate America than with some rock music.
