Lauryn England makes history as first Trans Black woman to open a restaurant in Alabama
Lady E’s Chick’n Cafe is a brand new restaurant opening in downtown Birmingham this spring. What makes this opening special? It marks the first restaurant in the state, owned and operated by an openly Trans, Black woman. Check out everything we know about the new spot and the woman behind the historic moment.
The first of its kind in Alabama
There may be a plethora of chicken joints dotting the map of Alabama but what makes this new opening unique is the owner. Lauryn England, a previous hairstylist turned reality television star, decided to follow a long-time dream of hers and finally open a local wing spot.
This will be the first restaurant to open in Alabama that is owned by an openly transgender, Black woman. According to Gaye Magazine, England shared that a portion of all proceeds from Lady E’s Chick’n Cafe will go towards her upcoming kidney foundation benefiting those affected by kidney failure, dialysis and any other complications. This foundation is in honor of her father who recently had to receive kidney transplant surgery.
Who is Lauryn England
Before Lauryn England set out to be a restauranteur, she became well known for her time on the TV series Chasing: Atlanta and Chasing: LA. The 27-year-old musician, actor, producer and home-chef, had always dreamed of opening a wing spot.
