The Alabama take on Groundhog Day is officially in the books and our two celebrity possums took the stage for their annual transition into meteorologists.

While Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter for the country, our state’s forecasters couldn’t agree on what comes next.

Birmingham Jill

Birmingham Jill, who has had a successful record in her past predictions, saw her shadow which of course means there will be six more weeks of winter.

And it has certainly felt that way in recent days!

Jill once again filled in for the Birmingham Zoo groundhog Birmingham Bill. This is the eighth straight year with a prediction from Jill.

Sand Mountain Sam

But a little further north and east in Albertville, Sand Mountain Sam says an early spring is on the way.

For 34 years, Sand Mountain Sam has traveled via whiskey barrel to deliver the news of whether we can expect an early spring or another six weeks of winter. Only twice in the last 14 years has he seen his shadow, implying more winter.

At least one of our possums will be correct! Which one are you hoping picked the right forecast? Let us know by tagging The Bama Buzz on InstagramXFacebook + LinkedIn.
