Telling the story of the struggle for civil rights

“On the heels of the 59th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, we are thrilled to have secured major federal funding to improve our transportation infrastructure along the Selma to Montgomery Historic Trail. This $36 million federal investment will help us tell the story of the struggle for civil rights to more Americans.”

Rep. Terri Sewell

The monies will be used to develop a greenway trailhead to facilitate zero emissions and ADA accessible transportation options along the Selma to Montgomery Historic Trail.

These enhancements include:

  • Rehabilitation of the Transportation Administrative Building and a brownfield site along the trail, into new locations for microgrids + charging stations for the public and public transit
  • Restore the Fairview Transfer Station to house smart benches, Wi-Fi nodes, wayfinding kiosks + a workforce micro-transit hub
