According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (which is a real thing, as I’ve just learned)—Americans will eat around 150 million hot dogs on the Fourth of July. Alabama, the home of some world-famous hot dogs and iconic Conecuh Sausage, is no exception.

To make your Independence Day Planning easy, we’ve rounded up six of the best places to grab a hot dog in Alabama.

The Dew Drop Inn in Mobile

Mobile’s favorite hot dog lies in the iconic Dew Drop Inn. Touted as the “Oldest Restaurant in Mobile,” the Dew Drop is known for slinging bright-red hot dogs, slathered with chili and sauerkraut for a savory, tangy flavor experience in every bite. Even Jimmy Buffett was a fan!

Also among the ranks of “oldest restaurants in Alabama” is another hot dog joint, Chris’ Famous Hot Dogs in Montgomery. It was established in 1917 and is so beloved by celebrities like Elvis Presley and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Chicago Cafe in Florence is all about creativity. They have some of the most unique hot dog toppings I’ve ever seen—peanut butter and jelly, Fritos and even mac ‘n cheese. You’ll have to let me know what graham crackers and hot dogs taste like!
