STUNNING: Explore Mobile’s reimagined downtown hotel—The Admiral [PHOTOS]
Reading time: 3 minutes
We now know what the new space looks like at The Admiral Hotel at in downtown Mobile—and it was worth the wait.
Unveiled on August 1, the opulent space mixes contemporary with historical, all in a way that feels authentic to the Port City.
We had the chance to see the space and preview the new restaurant, Le Moyne’s Chophouse. Keep reading for all the delicious details.
Telling the story of Mobile
Owner Jon Weitz says he bought the hotel in 2022 because Mobile is on the up. Between the downtown airport, the new Bayway and overall economic progress—he saw an opportunity.
“We think Mobile is ready for and deserves, quite honestly, an independent, non-branded hotel, and nobody’s tried it here before. Let it be us.”
Jon Weitz, Owner of Advocet Hospitality
Jon says inspiration for the space struck him “like a bolt of lightning” when he saw the name of the city’s French founder, Pierre Le Moyne D’iberville, multiple times on his first trip to Mobile.
“We needed to tell the story of the founding of the City of Mobile that was done at the behest of one of the most pompous kings in the history of France.”
Jon Weitz, Owner of Advocet Hospitality
Weitz has an interesting take on his role as a hotelier. He says he’s not in the hotel business, he’s in the storytelling business.
“We try to put together a story where you just happen to get to spend the night.”
Jon Weitz, Owner of Advocet Hospitality
The story he wanted to tell? What would a space befitting a stay of King Louis XIV look like in 2024? How can you marry cosmopolitan, modern features with classic Renaissance flair?
All in the details
Nothing chosen in the space is accidental. Much like how we fill our homes with art and knick-knacks that have a story and memory attached—Lisa meticulously curated each decorative flair in the 146-room hotel.
- Owners Jon and Lisa love French bulldogs, so mini figurines are included in all suite rooms.
- Door knockers on hotel rooms feature a specific kind of butterfly—The Admiral Butterfly.
- A light fixture in the lobby pays homage to Mobile’s oak canopies lining Government Street.
- Color schemes are purple and gold—honoring Mobile’s original Mardi Gras colors.
All of these details marry together to realize the story the city wanted Jon to tell.
Le Moyne’s Chophouse
And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the positively mouthwatering Le Moyne’s Chophouse. The restaurant is set to open on August 19, but if the samples I got to try were any indication, we should all be booking reservations now.
