The Admiral, one of Mobile’s beloved hotels, has begun a property-wide renovation.
Originally opened in 1940, The Admiral is located at 251 Government Street in the heart of downtown Mobile’s entertainment district. The hotel has hosted guests ranging from Bob Hope to Elvis Presley. It is also one of the most convenient locations to stay during Mardi Gras season.
Transformative restoration
“As Mobile continues to grow and captivate visitors from all over the globe, I am thrilled to witness the transformative renovation of one of the city’s leading hotels, The Admiral,” Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said in a statement.
Purchased in 2022
As reported by The Bama Buzz in July 2022, the hotel was purchased by Avocet Hospitality Group, a Charleston-based real estate development agency for $21 million.
Inside, the historic building contains:
- 157 guest rooms
- 7,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space
- The Corner 251 Restaurant & Bar
- A resort-style pool and deck
FUN FACT: The Admiral is the only hotel of its kind we know of where a rooftop honey bee colony and herb garden resides.
New restaurant concept
The property’s restaurant, Corner 251, will also be closed through the renovation and will be revived as an entirely new concept — Le Moyne’s Chophouse.
The new restaurant will be a contemporary chophouse serving high-quality cuts, fresh Gulf seafood, and an impressive wine and cocktail selection.
The renovations to the entire property are expected to be finished by early 2024.
