Have you ever dreamed of attending the ultimate tea party? The Well in Opelika is a beautiful tea house, eatery and mercantile that offers just that. However, there is much more to discover at this truly unique spot.

Luckily, we have all the details, so keep reading to learn more!

The history behind The Well

The Well, owned by Allison Kovak, was opened in 2021. It was previously a spa that was emptied due to the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020.

The Well is rooted in Christianity. Kovak prayed for guidance when deciding what to do with the space that would eventually become The Well, named after the well a Samaritan woman encountered Jesus at in the Bible.

“The Samaritan woman at the well in the Bible found herself at the well to avoid the things that were troubling her and the other women who rejected her. Through doing this, she ended up meeting Jesus. After praying about what we should do with this space, we decided to create a safe place where women could gather. That is really the heart behind The Well and why we named it that. I asked for Jesus to send me the right women to take this journey with me, and he delivered. A partnership was immediately formed and I have had team support from the beginning.”

The Well’s mission is to provide a space for women to heal, grow and gather. It also strives to support female entrepreneurs and encourage creativity through art.

What The Well offers

If you are looking for a fun yet relaxing way to sip and snack, The Well offers a variety of teas, lattes, collagen waters, finger foods, desserts and more. They have over 26 premium teas sourced from the top 5% of the world.

You can enjoy your refreshments in the upstairs room that is adorned in chic colors, comfy furniture and bathed in natural lighting. Or, take a trip downstairs where you can unwind in different rooms and nooks that make you feel like you are Alice in Wonderland. If you want a Zen yet picturesque atmosphere for you and your friends to enjoy, you can find it anywhere in The Well.

You can also purchase goodies handcrafted by local women-owned businesses. These include jewelry, candles, art, food, flowers and more.

Need a fun outing for you and your gals? The Well invites you to experience their Art Cafe. They have a menu for their food and drinks, but they also have a menu full of different creative and crafty experiences. Some of these experiences include candle painting, oil pastel painting, paper quilling and gem painting.

“You can come in here, sit down, get a cup of tea, order some sweets, and get creative. We are constantly looking for ways to create intentional points of gathering. We want to get women together and facilitate community. Art is a great way to do that, and all the creative events we host require zero skill or previous art knowledge. They are all-level experiences, which makes them a lot of fun. It’s a great way to get out and enjoy quality time with friends and family.”

The future of The Well

Not only is The Well excited to evolve and add to their Art Cafe, but they are excited about working with their new woman-owned business, Nourish Blooms.

Nourish Blooms provides fresh-cut flower bouquets for purchase. The flowers are locally grown in the small town of Waverly, Alabama, and all proceeds go toward feeding the families and food-insecure areas of our country.

Another upcoming venture at The Well will be a head spa that will provide customers and their hair some relaxing TLC.

With all these exciting additions, The Well plans on having three separate menus:

  • Nourish Menu: food and drink
  • Create Menu: art and crafting
  • Restore Menu: physical restorative treatments

“One of our important goals is to create incubators for women businesses and to give them a place to just succeed and grow. We are always moving and evolving.”
