Discover the world’s best outdoor gyms—The Fitness Court
What exactly is an outdoor gym, you ask? Well, think of it like an adult jungle gym, but so much better. Developed by the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) these open air exercise spots will help you get your workout in without spending a dime.
That’s right, thanks to sponsorship from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, these gyms are completely FREE for community use. Say goodbye to membership fees and expensive equipment.
“We are consistently looking for opportunities to give back to the communities we serve so we can have a healthier Alabama. Bringing Outdoor Fitness Courts to our state will give Alabamians access to an innovative platform that will help them lead an active and healthy lifestyle.”—Tim King, Community Relations Manager, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama
Outdoor gyms are accessible, efficient and free
NFC has been around since 1979, when they opened the first Fitness Court in San Francisco. Their designs have continued to develop over the years to meet our changing needs. Nowadays, the company has a strong emphasis on accessibility, efficiency and convenience.
The Fitness Court has seven stations, all of which utilize your own body weight to get your sweat on. Don’t know where to start? You can download the corresponding mobile app to access a library of free workouts.
For a local touch, NFC also works with area fitness influencers and instructors to organize free group classes.
Fostering healthy, sustainable habits in Alabama
Together, they’re committed to fighting obesity, improving quality of life and creating equitable access to outdoor exercise programs for Alabamians. Three cheers for a healthier, happier Alabama!
“This partnership will not only improve physical and mental wellbeing for Alabamians, but has the potential to really change the built environment in Alabama, helping encourage investment in pedestrian infrastructure and programs that encourage healthy habits and long-term behavior change.”—Trent Matthias, Director, NFC
