Tide, Tigers set to square off in SEC Softball Tournament for first time since 2018

After not facing off against each other in the regular season, Alabama and Auburn are set to meet in the first round of the SEC Softball Tournament this week in Athens, Ga.
Here’s what you need to know before first pitch:

Alabama, which is ranked 14th nationally, fell to the 10 seed after losing two-of-three to South Carolina over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Tigers finished in a tie for last place in the conference but are still just outside the national Top 25. All six of Auburn’s SEC wins came in the final month of the regular season + they’re coming off a series sweep of NC State.

This will be the 10th time the two in-state rivals have met in the SEC Tournament with Alabama winning six of the previous nine. This is the first postseason meeting between the two schools since 2018.
Auburn has won the previous two regular season series, taking four of six games against the Tide over the last two years.
The Crimson Tide has won six tournament titles with its most recent win coming in 2021. Alabama is 42-26 in the SEC tournament under coach Patrick Murphy.
Meanwhile, the Tigers have a pair of championships to their name, winning back-to-back tournaments in 2015 + 2016.
