Troy Trojans men’s basketball
Troy was one of four teams to split the regular season conference title, earning the team a bye to the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. The Trojans kept their momentum going, winning three games in three days to earn the Sun Belt championship.
With 23 wins already this season, Troy has recorded its most victories in a single season since 2004 when it won 24 games. The only other season that reached that mark was 2003 when it won a school-record 26 games.
The Trojans are led by Tayton Conerway, who was named the conference tournament MVP after scoring 16 points in the final 10 minutes of the championship game. The senior guard has averaged 14.3 points per game this season.
Selection Sunday
Troy will now wait for Sunday to see who its next opponent will be. The Trojans’ other two appearances in the NCAA Tournament ended in the first round including:
- 2003: No. 3 Xavier 71, No. 14 Troy State 59
- 2017: No. 2 Duke 87, No. 15 Troy 65
The Trojans are hoping for a better seed this time around but ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi has slotted Troy into the 14-seed line again. That could still change depending on results from the remaining conference tournaments.
Troy will officially find out its seeding, its opponent + its next road trip with the rest of the country on Selection Sunday. Here’s what you need to know:
