There are now just 52 football teams remaining across the seven classifications still competing for a state championship.

This week’s slate of games will include the quarterfinals for classes 1A through 6A + the semifinals for Class 7A. That means one Super 7 game will be set by the end of the week.

Keep reading to learn more about those semifinals + check out what other big games you should keep an eye on Friday night.

Class 7A championship spots on the line

While the new format of the 7A playoffs may have given us some more intriguing matchups in the first two rounds, we are two results away from having the same state championship game as last season.

Since 2018, no team outside of Thompson, Central-Phenix City and Auburn has made it to the Super 7 in Class 7A. That streak could continue but Hoover and Enterprise will have their chance to break up the norm.

The two semifinals for Friday night are:

  • Enterprise at Thompson, 7PM | Tickets | Warrior Stadium, 1932 Warrior Pkwy, Alabaster, AL 35007
  • Hoover at Central-Phenix City, 7PM | Tickets | Garrett–Harrison Stadium, Airport Rd, Phenix City, AL 36867

Enterprise is hoping to make its first state championship game appearance since 1982. Hoover has not made a Super 7 appearance since 2017, the program’s longest drought since 1999.

Central-Phenix City is the defending 7A champion, defeating Thompson in the title game last season.

Other games to watch this week

The quarterfinals of the other six classifications should be providing plenty of drama this week.

It’s a battle of the unbeatens in Saraland as Spain Park travels to play the top-ranked and defending champion Spartans. Meanwhile, in Class 5A, the top two ranked teams in the final ASWA poll face off in Montgomery.

Two of the most prestigious programs from the lower classifications meet up on Friday night when Piedmont hosts Fyffe in the 3A quarterfinals.

Here are some of the quarterfinal matchups to watch this week:

  • 6A #8 Muscle Shoals at #2 Parker
  • 6A #4 Spain Park at #1 Saraland
  • 5A #2 Clay Central at #1 Catholic Montgomery
  • 5A Ramsay at #4 Moody
  • 4A #10 Tallassee at #1 Jackson
  • 3A #5 Fyffe at #2 Piedmont
  • 1A #9 Maplesville at Millry
