Enrollment at the University of North Alabama (UNA) has topped 9500 for the first time in its history.
The number reflects a 12 percent increase from Fall 2021.
The student population grew in every category — freshmen, transfer, international, online and graduate — according to UNA
“These impressive numbers clearly indicate the resonance and strength of the North Alabama brand and experience among every type of student – locally, regionally, nationally and internationally,” said UNA President Dr. Ken Kitts. “The vibrancy of campus is exhilarating and indicative of the University’s growth and momentum. It is a great time to be at UNA!”
Fastest-Growing Public University
As reported by The Bama Buzz in the Fall of 2021, UNA increased its enrollment 6 percent compared to Fall 2020, making the institution the fastest-growing public university in Alabama.
The University credits several reasons for its record enrollment which occurred for 14 consecutive terms. They are:
- A sharp increase in on-campus students, with a record number of students living in University-affiliated housing
- The increase in the number of on-campus international students and international partners, including those in China at Guizhou University-University of North Alabama International College of Engineering and Technology on the Guizhou University campus in Guiyang, China
- The growth of the Delores and Weldon Cole Honors College which has more than 750 students enrolled in 2022, marking its largest enrollment in its more than 15-year history at UNA
“In an incredibly volatile and chaotic enrollment environment, UNA is experiencing atypical and unprecedented growth,” said Julie Taylor, Executive Director of Admissions and Enrollment Innovation. “The University’s ‘diversified enrollment strategy’ is both highly functioning and sustainable.”
40% Growth Since 2015
Enrollment at UNA has increased 40% since 2015. Located in the Shoals, on a picturesque 130 acre campus in Florence, Alabama, the university offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs through the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Human Sciences, and the Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions.
