UPDATE: ALDOT gives out more funding for local airports

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is back at it, dishing out funding to help airports all across the state. This time, over $140,000 are going to seven local airports—and we have the details.

ALDOT announced another wave of grants in late September. The funds come from the organization’s Airport Improvement Funding Program, which doles out money to local airports to help fund big-budget projects at any of the state’s 148 airports.

Many of the ALDOT grants work in tandem with funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Here’s a list of the latest grant recipients:

Bay Minette Municipal Airport: land acquisition

  • ALDOT grant: $9,193
  • FAA: $165,471
  • Matching local funds: $9,193

Foley Municipal Airport: hangar construction

  • ALDOT grant: $16,000
  • FAA: $305,193
  • Matching local funds: $16,000

The Prattville Airport: reconstruction of a taxiway

  • ALDOT grant: $11,308
  • FAA: $203,540
  • Matching local funds: $11,308

The Scottsboro Municipal Airport: update the airport master plan

  • ALDOT grant: $10,450
  • FAA: $188,107
  • Matching local funds: $10,450

The Shelby County Airport: hangar construction

  • ALDOT grant: $48,944
  • FAA: $881,000
  • Matching local funds: $48,945

The Southwest Alabama Regional Airport: land acquisition

  • ALDOT grant: $41,081

The Wetumpka Municipal Airport: acquisition of an avigation easement
