USA TODAY crowns Central- Phenix City Girls’ Flag Football national champs for 2nd year in a row

For the second consecutive year, Central High School in Phenix City was named USA TODAY’s Girls’ flag football national champio

The honor went to Alabama’s 6A/7A flag football champion after it finished the 2025 season scoring 840 points while allowing only 39.

In addition to its number one 2025 USA TODAY Super 25 national ranking, Central has won three straight Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) state titles and is currently riding a 57 game winning streak.

The Red Devils from Phenix City edged out teams from Colorado and California in the final USA TODAY poll, which was conducted in partnership with the NFL by a USA TODAY Network selection committee of editors and writers.


Joining Central in the final USA Today rankings were two Birmingham-area schools, Vestavia Hills (12th), runner-up to Central in the 6A/7A finals, Vestavia Hills and Moody High School (22nd), the Class 1A/5A state champion.
