Alabamians were treated to a nighttime spectacle on Thursday night as the aurora borealis, commonly known as the “Northern Lights”, were visible in much of the northern half of the state thanks to a rare geomagnetic storm. Will Alabamians be treated to a similar light show on Friday night?

Unfortunately, while the weather forecast calls for clear skies throughout the state on Friday night, there won’t likely be as much of a spectacle to witness.

“There’s a less than 5% chance the auroras will show in the North Alabama region, which covers everywhere north of Cullman in Alabama. There will be absolutely clear skies which will be great for stargazing anyway.”

The Bama Buzz has also confirmed with the Birmingham branch of the National Weather Service that despite the clear conditions, the aurora will not likely be visible to anyone in Alabama. At least we still have plenty of beautiful photos from Thursday night’s aurora to enjoy.
